There is a chemical in grapefruit that blocks one of the P450 enzymes in liver that detoxifies many chemicals in our diet, as well as certain drugs. If it is inhibited, the drug persists longer and higher, sometime even dangerous, levels are achieved. It takes a fair bit of grapefruit to do this, however, so if you accidentally have a swig dont panic.
