A maternity test determines the biological relationship between a child and a tested woman. It is often used to confirm biological relationships in adoption and other situations in which a child and mother were separated at birth or early childhood, and were later reunited.The child and alleged mother can be tested with or without the father. Because DNA is inherited in equal parts from both parents, a mother can be tested just as accurately as a father can.
