DISCUSSION 1.Will the authorized works impact on Mr. Petersen s bridge? The bridge of concern to Mr. Petersen is a log bridge on Handysen Creek approximately 30 cm high and 1.5 metres wide. The evidence of Mr. Petersen, confirmed by Mr. German, one of KPA s engineers, is that the opening under the bridge can pass approximately 527 litres per second of water. It was constructed over 20 years ago, and provides the only access to Mr. Petersen s house. Mr. Petersen is concerned that the development will increase the quantity of water flowing passed his property and threaten the bridge. He testified that he has already seen an increase in the amount of flow to his property. He felt it was more brown and silty and pointed out that an unusually high flow occurred on October 8th, just prior to the hearing.
