Has any women had an Hysterosalpingogram (HSG) done & was it succesfull the first time?
I had the same thing happen with my first HSG – the tech had a really hard time, said I had a severely tilted uterus. He was sweating and it took forever. He told me I at least have one tube open and could get pregnant with just one tube, ha ha. Not funny. So I was left hanging. About a year later I had one done by my Reproductive Endocrinologist and everything went fine – quick and easy, no problem – both tubes open. Maybe you can get a referral from someone for another HSG. You can join a trying to conceive forum and try to get referrals there if you have to… Anyway I would definitely get another one elsewhere. Best wishes!
I’m very sad to hear of your ordeal. Yes, some women have a cervix that is either too tight or too tortuous (twisted in different directions) making it hard to place a catheter either for IVF, insemination or HSG. Another very real fact is that the placement is not only patient-specific, but also, doctor-specific. In all fairness, a radiologist is an expert in taking and reading X-rays and does not do thousands of pelvic exams and cervical procedures. Some programs, although this is getting rarer in this day of streamlined medicine, have a team process where the gynecologist does the catheterization and the radiologist runs the x-ray machine, so that each does what they do best. The downside of this is inefficiency in that two doctors have their time tied down. The upside is a smoother process for patients who have difficult catheterizations. By the way, you are not alone. I see this happening about 5-10% of the time when patients get their procedures done by a radiologist and have to
