I’d suggest you try a) your bank to see if they have a resource that could help b) the Department of Trade & Industry UK Trade & Investment branch (web address below) c) The Institute of Export (website below) d) China-Britain Business Council e) Your Local Chamber of Commerce (have shown the London address, they’re very helpful) Even if they haven’t heard of this company they can certainly give you some good advice to reduce your exposure – although using Letters of Credit is an immediately obvious way of protecting yourself if you do do trade with this company. Also, what do you make and sell? Watch out for export licensing controls! Just make sure you protect yourselves at all stages – oh, and get a shipping/customs agent you can trust to look after you, here and in China.
