Has anybody here grown kumquat from seed?

0

I have grown several kumquat trees from seeds. The most important thing to remember is to not let the seeds dry out. They should be removed from the fruit and immediately placed into their pot/pellet/soil, about 1/2 inch deep. Do not let the soil dry out, but don’t keep it soggy either. The seeds will sprout in about a week or so. Once they have sprouted and are about 6 inches tall begin feeding a weak solution of Miracle Gro, about 1/4 strength, and gradually increase the strength over the next 6 months. Once the trees are about 3 feet tall they can be planted into the yard if your climate is such that they can survive. Otherwise, plant into the largest pot you can locate and, if possible, mount onto wheels to make moving it easier. It will take several years for them to produce fruit, if they ever do. Mine are now 5 years old and have never even produced a bud, but I still enjoy having them. I also have orange trees that I grew from seeds; they haven’t made anything yet, either. Good
