Has anyone else had enough of medication based answers to bipolar affective disorder?
I can confidently say that bipolar affective disorder must be corrected by medication. My mother has suffered from it from day one and no amount of “therapy” ever worked as good as medication.example, If you have an amputated leg, talking about it in group wont get rid of the phantom pains, drugs will.
the reason that the biological approach to treating bipolar affective disorder is more effective is because that is the approach that has the most empirical evidence to back it up. it is a proven fact that bipolar disorder is specifically caused by a disruption in the amount of norepinephrine in the brain, to be brief. there is some evidence to suggest that a low serotonin level in childhood can “open the door” for abnormal norepinephrine activity in adulthood which causes the bipolar disorder itself. unfortunately….bipolar disorder and schizophrenia have such severe biological basis’ that they must be treated as such. it is a sad lesson to learn, but the consequences are grave if we overlook this aspect of bipolar disorder.
Medication can help in controlling the symptoms of bipolar, but that is all. We should be actually eliminating the underlying causes of the disorder rather than just “covering them up”. If you have a stomach pain, painkillers would be great, but it would be best to get the tumor removed. Then again, there’s more money in selling overpriced drugs for a lifetime.
