Has anyone had trouble with their infants bowel movements after youve started feeding with rice cereal?

After a week of rice cereal, my son didn’t pass a bowel movement for 4 days! After talking to his doctor and other parents, we switched to oatmeal cereal. Binding with rice cereal is very common. He is now 7 months old and eats oatmeal every day. We had similar experiences with applesauce and carrots. We have since learned that these foods are binding: rice, apples, bananas, carrots. Our doctor recommends these instead: pears, peaches, squash, peas, green beans.

Well, my daughter is breastfed and typically goes up to 5 days with no bowel movement…which is just fine because it simply means she is using all of her food and has little waste. When I started feeding her cereal, she now goes more often but still not once a day. Just now it is much more and much smellier 🙂 If you are breastfeeding also, I wouldn’t be worried if she doesn’t go everyday. Also, as long as when she does go it comes out easy for her and not dry and hard she’s probably fine. A lot of people seem to think their babies are constipated just because they don’t go everyday…simply not true!
