My mother experienced it in the 1950’s in Florida, near the Everglades. She was driving down a highway in a driving rain, when from far down the highway, came three, rolling balls of what had to be lightening. One by one they rolled, seemingly slowly, toward her car. She slowed down, but didn’t dare stop, in case she was rear ended by someone who couldn’t see her in the heavy rain. She was terrified as the large balls came upon the car, and rolled up and over the vehicle one after the other, and continued on down the highway behind her. Inside the car, she and her passenger didn’t feel a thing. It made a real impression on her, as you can imagine. She told us the story often as kids in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Another time, my paternal grandmother was sitting in her living room in Albany, NY, during a thunder storm.
