Well, being a woman, no it never occurred to me. Plus I became Catholic after I had a husband and children. But I think that a vocation to religious life is a calling, not just something you decide to do. Priests and nuns, dedicate themselves to Christ and the service of his people. They are married to him. A life of celibacy is a sacrifice. Not just because you give up sex but because you sacrifice a spouse and family. You offer that sacrifice to God and allow him to use you fully and totally. I’m sure it’s a struggle…but then most of life is at times. Being married, raising kids, financial concerns, etc. can all be struggles as well. Each person should pray that they follow the call of God. A call to the priesthood or a call to marriage…even a call to be single/celibate but not in a religious order. The will of God is what matters.
