Has construction started on the Heartland Expressway and Great Plains Trade Corridor?
Significant progress has been made on the Heartland Expressway. Completed sections include Interstate 76 from Brush, CO to Denver CO, NE Highway 71 from Kimball to Gering and SD Highway 79 from Rapid City to Fairburn, SD. Improvements to the existing 2-lane highway have also been made between Alliance, NE and the NE/SD border. SD Highway 79 from Fairburn to Maverick Junction is presently under construction. The four-lane between Scottsbluff and Minatare, NE was recently completed and construction is taking place on the bypass around Scottsbluff/Gering. More than one third of the Great Plains Trade Corridor has been completed including over half of the Port-to-Plains Trade Corridor. The longest completed links on the Great Plains Trade Corridor are the 380 miles along US 87/I-27/US 287 between San Angelo, TX and Stratford, TX; the 155 mile Route 11 between Saskatoon SK and Regina SK, the 141 mile Autopista 85 between Laredo TX and Monterrey Mexico, the 90 miles of I-76 between Denver an
