Has Guantanamo Prison Made America Safer?

Guantanamo is part of the occupation of Cuba by an Imperialist nation, America! It like all black op prisons of detention are for people we do not like, no charges are brought, no lawyers are allowed and most captives are never heard from again. Any of us could be taken away to one of these horrible places!

I don’t think Guantanamo made America any safer. I think quite opposite is true.

I clicked “no”. But really it’s probably “yes and no”. Killers were isolated in Guantanamo. that merits a (partial) yes. But Guantanamo became a lightning-rod for hatred of the US and a recruiting tool for our enemies. That merits an unequivocal “no”. It also eroded our freedoms. The idea that American justice can be run offshore in order to remove it from the strictures of our constitution is troubling. The idea that being accused of terrorism moves you beyond the protections of law weakens the protections of the law for all. Note how the debate had been undertaken! Leaders of both sides speak as if guilt of individuals is doubtless. Our very system of law is at risk. How ironic that so-called “conservatives” promote this. Conservatives should favor the checks and balances of a government under law where nobody (including the military) is above the law.
