No he makes a very fair point. Tactics are pointless unless you have the team to execute them. Waugh had an amazing bowling attack at his disposal. It’s not exactly hard to captain when McGrath and Warne are bowling…you just stick in a few slips, and they will do the rest. Ponting was not that great a captain initially, but he has proven his mettle since the retirement of the greats with a lot of success despite having a relatively weaker team. I would rate Fleming and Brearley as two of the greatest captains of all time. Neither had a spectacular team to work with, but they did a good job.
