No team has ever had a perfect season Collingwood won all 18 home-and-away games in 1929 but lost a final (back when there was 18 rounds) the closest team who has ever come to a perfect season is Essendon in 2000, who won 21 of 22 games (lost to the Western Bulldogs in round 21) and then went on to win the grand final.
