Have persons suicided in Australia following the “remembering” of Recovered Memories?
Yes. Without a full review, the exact number remains unknown. A survey of the first 83 Australian families reporting being affected by recovered memories found that six successful suicides had occurred in the person who had recovered memories. The number of persons who have suicided following a false accusation arising solely from unsubstantiated allegations based on recovered memories is not known. The AFMA is aware of cases where this has occurred.
