Larry Niven answered with this: Ringworld rights are locked up: Mandell has been sitting on them for decades. Mote rights were held for a few years, early on. They’re free now. The Legacy of Heorot looked serious: United Artists held the rights. That fell through, and they’re free. Gaumont had the rights to ARM as a series, for six months. That’s free now.
