Supplementing with formula will only decrease your milk supply, and it won’t help your baby sleep through the night. Some babies just take longer than others to do this. I was pretty much a big meanie with mine, but I didn’t want to be waking up in the middle of the night after the first few months. After this, they really don’t need the feeding in the middle of the night, but they will condition themselves to become used to it. Here are some tips to help you get on a schedule that fits your life a bit better. Don’t let your baby feed in small bits throughout the day. Especially in the evenings, don’t stand for a few nips every 20-30 min. Get a good long feeding in late in the evening, and put him down for the night. If you do this at 10 or 11, then you shouldn’t need to feed him until 5-6 in the morning. You can get away with 8-9pm until 5-6am, depending on your baby.
