HELP! what are resistor colour codes for?

0

resistor colour codes are an easy way to see the resistance value, bearing in mind that the component may be mounted any way up and in a confined space

The colour code allows you to determine the resistance value and the tolerance levels. A black stripe, for example, stands for the number 0, whereas brown is 1, and so on. The first stripe gives the first number, the second stripe gives the second number, the third stripe gives the number of ending zeroes, and the fourth stripe gives the tolerance. So, for example, a resistor with colours brown, black, yellow, gold has a value of 100,000 Ohm, and a tolerance of 5% either way, meaning the actual resistance lies in the range 95,000-105,000 Ohm.

As domme me said, resistor color bands tell you the resistance value and tolerance of the resistor. The tolerance band is usually silver (10%) or gold (5%). Just in case, “tolerance” is how far out the actual value can be. For example, if the resistor is orange orange brown silver, that is 330 ohms with 10% variance. So, the resistor may actually be as high as 363 ohms (330 + .1*330) or as low as 297 ohms. Of couse, it could also be a perfect 330. Wiki has a good article on the subject: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_color_code Cheers.

Resistor color codes is use to indicates the resistance of a Resistor. There are 4 and 5 band resistor depending on their use the first 3 bands indicate the digit and the 3band indicates the multiplier the 4th band represents the tolerance wether it is 5% or 10% below or above the given value the fifth band represents the time or years will it work, 5bands are use in special electronic gadgets specially in military.
