Hi, does anyone know the best gas cylinders for caravanning in France, and where to buy them?
These are known as “Bouteilles de gaz pour caravane/ le camping”. There are several brands and they can contain butane or propane. The best well known brands in France are Butagaz, Primagaz, and Antargaz. There also is Totalgaz. Most of these are actually sidelines of large petrol companies like Shell, Total etc… Being highly flamable they have to be stocked out of doors by retailers and you will find them almost everywhere where car fuel and two stroke is sold. In France most hypermarkets have petrol stations on part of their forecourts and you can see the gaz bottles in special racks near the paying booth.The attendant gives you a key and you go and help yourself then return the key. The hypermarket Auchan in the South suburb of Calais called Coquelles has them, but you should find some on any route you take.
