While globe valves provide a wide range of options in flow characteristics, pressure, temperature, noise reduction, etc., ball valves provide higher rangeability and nearly twice the flow capacity of globe valves. Ball valves are also less expensive than globe valves. High performance butterfly valves are even less expensive than ball valves, especially in larger sizes, and can provide good control.
