Holiday Shopping Tip – The Difference Between DVD Upscaling and True High Definition Thursday November 29, 2007 If you are shopping for a DVD, Blu-ray, or HD-DVD player this holiday season, you may be confused by all the ADs proclaiming DVD players that offer “HD upscaling” vs the ADs for Blu-ray and HD-DVD players. Many consumers wrongly assume that a DVD player that is advertised as providing “1080p Upconversion” or “HD-compatible” is the basically the same as a Blu-ray or HD-DVD player. Although Upscaling DVD players do provide enhanced performance over that of standard DVD players, they do not provide the same performance as a Blu-ray or HD-DVD player.
