How accurate are the measurements in science?
Those measurements are as accurate as they can be right now. No one is making up fake numbers for the distance to stars or for the age of the earth. The astronomical distances are not exaggerated. As scientists figure out better ways to make those measurements, the numbers will become more accurate, but that will not change the scale. The measurement of geologic time and the measurement of astronomical distances are very different processes, done using completely different tools. And, by the way, the age of the earth is estimated at about 4 1/2 Billion years – much more than a few million years. Our own experiences with time and distance do make those numbers hard to understand and relate to the measurements of times and distances in the Universe.
