How accurately did Mel Gibson portray William Wallace in Braveheart?

The film was such a travesty difficult to know where to start pointing out errors. Scots still painting themselves with woad in 13th century – mel looked like a baboons backside- Edward 111 the illegitimate son of William Wallace, scots and irish fighting together at Stirling ( in fact the scots sent to Ireland made themselves more hated than the English and were booted out). The film panders to scottish nationalism by airbrushing out Wallaces atrocities eg mass slaughter of civilians – admitted to by Wallace at his trial – making a sword scabbard out of human skin etc. The film itself overrated though it starts well- many of the battle scenes seem to be the same shots repeated. Basically braveheart is just another Mel Gibson sadomasochist extravaganza.
