HOW ARE ELECTROLYTE DRINKS REGULATED?

0

In March 2000 the Food Standards Authority of Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) released the draft Food Standards Code. The Draft Food Standards Code includes provisions for Electrolyte Drinks within the standards for Non Alcoholic Beverages 2.6.2. Australian Beverages submitted its full support for this inclusion and has worked with FSANZ throughout the review to ensure members could continue to manufacture these beverages as they have been in the past. Australian Beverages Council is also pleased that following our submission of recent literature on the importance of carbohydrate composition, FSANZ have reinstated maximum and minimum levels for carbohydrates in these beverages. See the FSANZ website for a full report and draft standard on electrolyte drinks at www.foodstandards.gov.
