How are Performance Management and Continuous Quality Improvement (a more common term in health care and other portions of the public health system), different, if at all?

The two ideas are certainly related and sometimes used interchangeably. Performance management can be thought of as monitoring and assessing performance. Continuous Quality Improvement is one technique, for improving performance. Other techniques for performance improvement include, but are not limited to, six sigma, Kaizen, and total quality management. The techniques listed are not an endorsement by CDC, and will not be given any special consideration by CDC for their inclusion or exclusion.
