How are polyethylene garbage bags made?
Garbage bags are produced using a two-stage process: extrusion and conversion. In extrusion, the resin (in the form of beads) is melted to temperatures exceeding 200 degrees Celsius to a uniform material which is then blown upward (in this stage the molten plastic is referred to as a bubble) in order to be cooled before it is finally flattened and rolled into double-layer film. The gauge of the garbage bags depends on the speed with which the film is blown. In conversion, the film is then heated and sealed into bags.
