How are promoters at upscale clubs compensated?
Compensation is either a flat fee and or a percentage of the evenings bar and/or door sales. If it is a percentage deal it is usually directly related to how many people they bring, and how desperate the venue is. In addition a certain amount of free alcohol / drinks are usually provided as part of the deal. There are many different kinds of promoters differently by different types of venues. Whole venue promoters – There are venues that need promoters to fill entire nights or the entire schedule (i.e., people wouldn’t come there if there is not a promoter there, usually second tier venues). These promoters usually put large teams together, and take a percentage of bar sales, ranging from 5-35% percent, 20% being the industry standard. They usually determine the crowd, the the music, the marketing and sometimes the staffing.
