How are the Salem Witch Trials and McCarthyism similar?
, was written during the Red Scare, when McCarthyism was going on. Arther Miller wrote the play because of the “battle” going on between Junior Senator of Wisconsin Joseph McCarthy and reporter Edward Murrow, the former being represented in the play as Abigail and Danforth and the latter represented as John Proctor. Various other people involved in the government and the media had paralel characters in the play. Miller felt that history has repeated itself and will repeat itself many more times.
