Many individuals, hospices, and organizations took part in the collaborative process of creating the Community Residential Hospice Standards. This Working Group drafted the first standards based upon Canadian and American standards and used the CHPCA’s A Model to Guide Hospice Palliative Care: Based on National Principles and Norms of Practice to guide the development of their standards. The first draft of the standards was sent to more than 180 individuals, hospices and organizations for feedback, and was then revised. The second revised draft of the standards was re-sent to the same individuals, hospices and organizations. The HAO received the response that the document was easy to understand and 89% reported that the standards met their expectations. In many different documents from the HAO, there is an emphasis on equality and respect for cultural and spiritual diversity.
