How big a data set can be processed by REVEDIT?

0

(New for R38) A: REVEDIT reads the data set to be edited into virtual storage. As the data grows during the intial read and during the edit process more virtual storage is dynamically acquired. There is a 16-byte overhead for each record, and for variable-length records the maximum length is allocated for each record. Thus the maximum edit data set size is limited by the user’s REGION size (also taking into account other programs and data which must reside in the REGION) or by the site’s limit of data space usage (usually implemented via IEFUSI) up to 2 gigabytes. An assemble-time “gen option” specifies whether REVEDIT is to use REGION storage or a data space to back data being edited. The amount of storage acquired to back the data being edited can be shown with the PROFILE or PROF subcommand of REVEDIT.
