Russia is the world’s largest country when it comes to actual territory. Russia has about 6.59 million square miles of territory, while the United States has about 3.79 million square miles. Russia is nearly twice the size of the United States in terms of land mass.
If you throw Russia and the United States over the same land mass comparison (for example Canada in the image to the right), then you’ll notice that Russia might seem smaller, but the additional land to the North adds on a great deal more.
Alaska is not pictured, but adds about 586,412 square miles to the image. Hawaii also adds 10,931 square miles to the image.
