How can a Christian support capitol punishment?

I don’t believe anyone who is truly a christian can condone capital punishment. I believe in the eyes of God that execution is the same as murder.

Qurinnious, again you have missed the message of a Bible verse. The story of John 8 isn’t about killing or not killing. It’s a story about judgement. Who are we to judge someone when we ourselves are guilty of sin. Only God has the authority to judge since only He is sinless. But as far as your question about pronouncing a death sentence on another human I generally agree with you. If you feel abortion is wrong, so is capitol punishment of criminals, and pulling the plug on our relatives while they are in a hospital, or assisted suicide. Any killing of a person except for self defense is most likely against God’s plan.

How terribly, terribly wrong you are. I certainly am not a Christian to make myself feel good. I am a Christian because I don’t want to spend eternity in hell. And I believe that every soul that misses that horrible place makes Jesus feel good. Why should we not want to make Him happy by repenting and becoming a Christian…just look what He did for us.

As Christians we are to submit to government authority. But once again people are missing the point that execution is a punishment. I personally don’t believe in execution only because there have been cases of mistaken identities where the wrong person has been executed.
