America is rebuilding on the strength and toughness of the American people, but we have a lot of work to still do. That is why I supported legislation in Congress to help Americans get back to work, strengthen small businesses and invest in our local communities including providing tax incentives to expand access to lending, tax credits to small businesses that hire unemployed workers and closed tax loopholes to keep jobs here in America. One of my signature accomplishments was taking on a lead role in establishing a $1 billion therapeutic tax credit for small biotech firms that are on the cutting edge of innovative discoveries. This provision will create jobs in Southeastern Pennsylvania and produce the next wave of medical breakthroughs. A total of 5,668 companies in 47 states have already applied for this tax credit and the recipients will be notified on Oct. 29, 2010.
