How can cultural influences affect someones self-concept?
obviously the “nurture over nature” theory applies here. Whatever cultural influences you are raised with will be reflected in your self-concept. For example, in most Asian American families, parents teach (well, more like enforce by threats and beating) their kids to behave and do well in school to reach that “American dream,” therefore Asian American kids either grow up to be rebellious against their parents and start to get into trouble, or hardworking well-mannered adults.
