How can environmental considerations be incorporated into new product development?

The question touches on many aspects: Durability, Recyclability, Life Cycle Inventory; Life Cycle Analysis; Resource Conservation and many more. Books have been written on any one of these parameters. Perhaps this question – which is both fascinating and important – should be focused a little more narrowly. One important ingredient in new product development is DESIGN, a complex and often non-linear process. How do you introduce environmental considerations into a non-linear process? I look forward to comments from many colleagues in many different disciplines. Ted Gerson, F.T.Gerson Limited, Toronto, Canada ted_gerson@compuserve.
