How can I avoid blistering when applying CCW Deck Coating?
• To avoid moisture blistering, be sure that the deck is not damp and that rain, dew, or fog are not present prior to application of each layer. Moisture testing should be done according to ASTM D 4263, “Standard Test Method for Indicating Moisture in Concrete by the Plastic Sheet Method” or ASTM E 1907, “Standard Practices for Determining Moisture Related Acceptability of Concrete floors to Receive Moisture Sensitive Finishes”. Test results from ASTM D 4263 state that no visible droplets should form on the plastic film. Test results from ASTM E 1907 cannot exceed 3 (+/- 10%) lbs./100 sq.ft./24 hours. • To avoid blistering during surface preparation, be sure that shotblasted surfaces are free of ridges, projections or voids. Steel trowel the surface twice and finish with a light or soft hair broom. • To avoid blistering caused from gassing, follow product specifications and be sure that each layer is the proper thickness and is completely cured before proceeding with next layer.
