How can I become a child therapist with a bachelors in child development?
Some routes worth considering are getting a MS in Counseling or Clinical Psychology, a MS in Social Work, or a BS and then MS in Nursing with a focus on psychiatric nursing. While it would not give you license to perform therapy, a PhD in Developmental or School Psychology would let you work in child development. To practice psychology as a psychologist, you need to get either a PhD or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology. If Psychiatry is more your interest, look into either a MD or a DO (doctor of osteopathy) with a focus in psychiatry. To get into these sorts of programs, you’ll need an undergraduate education (BS) focusing on psychology, biology, chemistry, research methods, and statistics. You might also want to look into getting technical certifications (EEG technician, for example) which may contribute to a career in behavioral science.
