How can I best help my left-handed son to learn to write?

The best advice I can give is to have him turn the paper he is working on 45 degrees to the right. I don’t smudge what I write but back in the day when I wrote a lot I did get ink on the edge of my hand. No big deal. There are two types of lefties, those that hook their hands around and those that write from underneath. I write from underneath but I don’t know why I use that method. It’s been over 20 years since I learned how to write but I think the most important thing is learning how to hold the pencil right–not too hard or loose, and with the fingers in the right position… like a chopstick (I guess). While it is possible to write with abnormal finger position, penmanship will be better if it’s in the right position.
