How can I combat jet lag?

0

I was an international Flight Attendant for 13 years, doing mostly long-haul transatlantics and transpacifics. I wasn’t a good sleeper *before* I got the job so combating jet lag has been a project of mine. First of all, with 8+ hour time changes, it’s simply not practical and a drop in the bucket to adjust ahead of time. I don’t ever bother. Most of us have schedules which make this very impractical. On the flight, I try to sleep and drink enough. While I’ll treat myself to the occasional beer and/or coffee, I actually try to avoid caffine and alcohol as much as possible. I drank Green Tea at work, which not only avoided “coffee breath” (as a F/A, one thinks of these things!) but keep me hydrated and awake without the buzzy feeling. Airplane air if very dry and it’s easy to get dehydrated onboard. Many of the symptoms of jet lag are the same as dehydration so one can make the other worse and it’s hard to know which is which. Drinking enough keeps one at bay and makes the other easier
