How can i draw a perfect ecliptic arch?
Get a board–draw a straight line down the middle the long way. Pound two nails into the line–one about 2 inches to the left of center, and the other 2 inches to the right. Get a piece of non-stretchable string about 12 inches long, and tie the ends together (knotted) to form a loop. Put the loop over the two nails in your board. Take a pencil, and use its tip to pull the tension out of the string. You are now ready to draw a complete ellipse. Keeping the string tension uniform, begin moving your pencil either clockwise or CCW. The string does the guiding of the pencil. You have two variables that will affect the proportions of your ellipse–how far apart the nails are placed, and what size loop of string you use. If you want concentric ellipses. use different size string loops with the same nail spacing. Whew–I didn’t mean to get so wordy. So get experimenting, and have fun with it.
