For SCO UNIX 3.2 version 4.2, you must use the User Defined or Drive Type option that matches the drive’s heads and sectors, and you must designate no more than 1024 cylinders at the CMOS level. When the installation is running, change the hd parameter fields Cylinders and Landing Zone to the exact number of cylinders that is stamped on the hard-disk drive. The first Dell Dimension systems had drive types and allowed the correct type of information to be entered for the User Defined option. The newer Dell Dimension systems do not have this capability, which means you only get 527 MB. The OptiPlex systems still use drive types. You only have to match the drive’s heads and sectors using drive type 41 or 45. The User Defined option may also work on the OptiPlex systems, but this method has not been verified. The drive-type number approach always works.
