I don’t know about plastic smells, but I took a weeklong vacation in August last year, only to discover upon returning that the circuit our fridge was on had gone out three hours after we left. Seven days of power-free fridge in the August heat, I’m sure you can imagine what sort of smell we had to deal with in our fridge. We used the following: 1. Washed out the inside with vinagar and water, and then baking soda and water, then left the door open with the power off overnight to air out. If the smell you have is mild enough, this may do it. 2. Since the smell we had was NOT mild enough, we then bought a big tub of cheapo Folger’s instant coffee crystals, poured it on several plates, and put one on each shelf in the fridge and freezer. We closed it up and left that overnight (fridge on or off), and in the morning the fridge smelled like coffee and not like a week’s worth of rotten food.
