How can I get to the starter in my 1997 Pontiac Grand Am to replace it?

Ok, whatever you do, ignore that first answer……I don’t even know what they were thinking. I had a 1991 Pontiac Grand Am and i had to replace the starter. Its not just the simple remove the wire, remove the bolts, pull it out. If it is the factory starter, which I’m sure it is, it should have a support bracket attached to the rear end, I know on the 1991 model, that bracket mounted to the block, right behind the exhaust manifold, making is just about impossible to get to. If this is the case, you will need to find a way to loosen the bolt that attaches the bracket to the block, just enough to let that bracket be loose. You should be able to get an open end wrench and move it a little at a time, but it will be tough. Then remove the nut that attaches the bracket to the starter, and swing it up and out of the way, then it should be as easy as removing the 2 starter bolts, and then the wire and going through the steps backwards to put the new one in. I’ve had my share of starter issues
