Start by finding a clinic that will let you shadow the vet. Call around to all clinics in your area and tell them you’re interested in veterinary medicine and you’re wanting to get some experience. After doing that for awhile, they will probably let you start doing things and if you do well then you will be the first one they think of when a paying position opens up (probably in the kennel). You are smart to start now. Just so you know 180 hours is the minimum. The average student accepted to UC Davis’s vet school has 3,000 hours of experience. UC Davis is one of the most competitive vet schools in the country.
