How Can I Keep Slugs & Snails Off My Vegetables Without Using Poisons?

Beer traps do work a treat, but they stink like hell. Don’t use salt as it will damage your soil and plants. Egg shells are good as is sharp sand, copper wire actually gives them a shock. There are many ways to get rid of slugs and snails but the best way by far is to engourage wildlife and let nature do the rest. Blackbirds, thrushes, hedgehogs, frogs and toads all eat slugs and snail, and other nasties that eat your veg. Try putting in a small pond, even a sunken container with a bit of pond weed in it will do. Slugs tend to come out in an evening and early morning or just after rain. Go out and squish them (take a small child along, they love it:)) Finally, if you get really desperate you can still use slug pellets, but put them in a proper trap so they can’t seep into the soil or be eaten by anything else.
