How can I obtain a reference number for outpatient visits for a Tufts Health Plan member who is new to my practice?
Providers should call the Mental Health Department at (800) 208-9565 and follow the phone prompts to access the Mental Health Department’s IVR system or log in to www.tuftshealthplan.com/providers . You will need to provide: the Tufts Health Plan member’s ID number, including the 2 digit suffix; the member’s date of birth and your National Provider Identifier (NPI) number. You will receive a confirmation number that begins with K for Web generated authorizations and a V for those generated thru IVR. Please note that the initial consultation/diagnostic evaluation (billing code 90801) is included in the initial authorization. You don’t need a separate reference number for this evaluation. You may also call 800-208-9565 and speak to a Service Coordinator.
