You’ll have to sand them first, then prime, and then paint … since you’re painting light over dark, you’ll probably need at least 2 coats of your finish color. If I were you, I’d ask for specifics on how-to at whatever store you plan to buy your paint. I’ve always found that the people who SELL the paint are pretty knowledgeable about how to best use their product, and how to prep the surface before application. Be sure to let them know that you want to paint over a surface that had previously been stained. If it’s feasible, you might want to take one of your cabinet doors off and take it in with you, so the store employee can assess the condition of the surface and advise you on which products to buy for the best result.
