How can I perform side channel analysis on a memory stick?
Side channel analysis can be performed on embedded technology, like key disks, tokens, memory sticks etcetera, just like smart cards. The difficulty is that the interface is less standard and power taps are sometimes difficult to configure. What you need is: 1. Possibility to control the encryption on the test object with known random clear input text and/or resulting encrypted output cipher text. 2. Possibility to measure the power consumption or the electromagnetic emanations of the test object during encryption. 3. Possibility to trigger the oscilloscope just before the encryption. These three requirements can be met by: 1. Use the serial port driver for Inspector and the serial port on the test object. You need to adapt the firmware on the embedded test object to enable the test object to be controlled through the serial port by Inspector. 2.
