I could only find one article, and it basically said the mother cat will tell the kitten when to stop, and it was in reference to eight month old kittens. I just got two kittens, who were 4 months old and 10 weeks old. The 4 month old used to try to nurse off my 14 year old male cat. The cat just keep pushing him away and eventually he stopped (he’s six months old now). The baby kitten tries to nurse off the bigger kitten, who is also male, and pushes her away. In your case, it is just one kitten. The older cat is producing milk so obviously she doesn’t mind. Just make sure you feed her extra food. I know in humans milk production takes an extra 500 calories a day.
