Since your ears were pierced with normal piercing studs it is safe to say they were pierced at either 16 or 18 gauge. 16 gauge was standard for many years, but now some places are using 18 gauge so your holes will not be noticeable when you are not wearing earrings. These two gauges are so close together that you should not have any problem putting 16 gauge earrings in your ears. Since this will be your first experience putting earrings in your ears, you might want to put a little Vaseline or something similar on the posts of your new earrings to make them slide through your ears easier.
